Top Ten Tuesday - Frequently Used Words In Christian Historical Romance Titles

Monday, April 23, 2018

Today's topic from That Artsy Reader Girl is words that pop up more than others in the titles of books. I chose (Christian) Historical Romance to focus on today! While some of these words are used a bit, they aren't the "norm" for Historical Romance. And some of these words....are used ALL the time...But how can you expect to go very far in ROMANCE and NOT find the word "love" or "heart"?

*Disclaimer* MOST of these books I have NOT read (I have only read 6 of these listed)...I have added them to my list though!

Click the links below to be taken to the book's Goodreads page to learn more.

And if we put all the words together....

Time
Secrets
Dreams
Hope
Love
Where
Bride
Heart
Safe
Home

Beautiful ain't it?

Which words are your favorite?

HUGE thanks to Inspirational Historical Fiction Index...Which made this post so much easier!

First Line Friday + Spotlight - Reclaiming Shilo Snow

Friday, April 20, 2018

Happy Friday!

I received this book this week from the publishers. It was like Christmas when I opened the package. I was left with such conflicting emotions at the end of The Evaporation of Sofi Snow (you can find my review here) that I have been dying to get my hands on a copy of Reclaiming Shilo Snow. Mary Weber is an incredible author and has such vivid stories, that you can't help but be swept away into a different world. Here is the first line and don't forget to start with book 1, The Evaporation of Sofi Snow...

Happy Reading!

Today’s first line is from...

Reclaiming Shilo Snow
Mary Weber

The Taking
Four years to the day after the alien planet arrived above earth, Sofi's papa had collapsed on the rickety front porch of their buttermilk-yellow farmhouse.

About the Book

Trapped on the ice-planet of Delon, gamer girl Sofi and Ambassador Miguel have discovered that nothing is what it seems, including their friends. On a quest to rescue her brother, Shilo, a boy everyone believes is dead, they must now escape and warn Earth of Delon’s designs on humanity. Except the more they unearth of the planet and Sofi’s past, the more they feel themselves unravelling, as each new revelation has Sofi questioning the very existence of reality.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, Sofi’s mom, Inola, is battling a different kind of unravelling: a political one that could cost lives, positions, and a barely-rebuilt society, should they discover the deal made with the Delonese.
But there’s a secret deeper than all that. One locked away inside Sofi and ticking away with the beginnings, endings, and answers to everything. Including how to save humanity.
About the Author
Mary Weber is a ridiculously uncoordinated girl plotting to take over make-believe worlds through books, handstands, and imaginary throwing knives. In her spare time, she feeds unicorns, sings 80’s hairband songs to her three muggle children, and ogles her husband who looks strikingly like Wolverine. They live in California, which is perfect for stalking L.A. bands, Joss Whedon, and the ocean.

Amongst the Roses & Giveaway! - A Keystone Legacy Book One - Meghan M. Gorecki

Thursday, April 19, 2018

My Rating
 - You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. (More Info)

About the Book
The War Between the States shakes Margaret Bryant out of her comfortable upper-class life when her father enlists in the Army of the Potomac. Despite being safely ensconced above the Mason-Dixon Line in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Margaret finds her strength tested by opposition from familiar faces and Confederate threats. Will she let a young man from a lesser station into her heart even as war rages ever nearer to the homefront?

Restless Connor Doyle sees the war as a way to escape from his family’s farm and his identity as a poor Irishman’s son. His brother, Adam, torn between duty to country and his family, enlists alongside Connor. Adam dares to hope in a future with Margaret when he begins a courtship correspondence from the war front. The two brothers make a vow to protect one another at all costs, but when faced with death and destruction from all sides—will they be able to uphold it?

The three bloodiest days in America’s history brings these three together at Gettysburg and tragedy’s cruelty threatens to tear two hearts apart—and bring two unlikely allies together.

My Thoughts

Meghan Gorecki brings to life the beauty and the tragic horrors of the Civil War.

Margaret Bryant is a force to reckon with. I love her strength and tenacity. Her protective heart and stubbornness. I loved watching the Bryant family interact. Support each other, fight with each other. They felt real and tangible. Adam Doyle is the opposite of Margaret in oh so many ways. But their differences complete each other.

This era can be such a downer. Brother fighting against brother...A country at war with itself...I can't even imagine the heartache, the fear, the cost...that each family had to make. Ms. Gorecki takes one of the most brutal portions of our young history and weaves a thread of hope, life, and dare I say...Romance...Lighting the dark corners of war.

I received a complimentary copy of Amongst the Roses. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Top Ten Tuesday - My Favorite General Market Books

Monday, April 16, 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and today is a Freebie week. I decided to share my top ten-ish favorite books that I really enjoy that are NOT Christian Fiction...*GASP*...I know...But there are some really good books outside the Christian Book world. (You still love me right?)

Most of these are YA or Classics...It has been quite a while since I have read some of these (which is why you won't find a review on my blog for them).

What are some of your favorites?

First Line Fridays - Jody Hedlund

Friday, April 13, 2018

Happy Friday!

We are in the midst of a spontaneous remodelling session! I know...We are crazy! It all started with just a little paint. Haha! It is stressful but fun, and we are almost done with stage one! YAY! And I am taking a break to post my first line. I am a HUGE fan of print books. I love the convenience of reading books on my kindle, but nothing beats the feel (or smell) of a REAL book in your hands. So...I have been building my collection of print books...slowly but surely. And I recently purchased a couple of Jody Hedlund's books. And I couldn't decide which one to feature today, so I am doing both hehe!

Happy Reading!
