About the Book

Stella West's artistic talent made her the toast of London, but when her beloved sister dies under mysterious circumstances she abandons everything and heads for Boston. With single-minded determination, she fights to pierce the ring of secrecy surrounding her sister's death. Upon meeting Romulus White, a publisher with connections into every important power circle in the city, she quickly realizes he could be a valuable ally in navigating Boston society.
Romulus has been pursuing Stella for years to create art for his magazine. Her luminous illustrations are the missing piece he needs to propel his magazine to the forefront of the industry, and he will stop at nothing to get her on board.
Famous firsts in American cities: First subway At 6 a.m. on Sept. 1, 1897, in Boston, more than 100 passengers climbed aboard the first train to travel through a tunnel. In its infancy, the first subway line in the United States provided passengers a 3 1/2-minute trip and cost 5 cents. Sparks fly the instant they join forces, but Romulus is unsettled by the unwelcome attraction he feels toward Stella, fearing she might be the one woman who could disrupt his hard-won independence. He may have finally met his match in Stella, but is helping her solve the mystery of her sister's death worth the risk to his publishing empire?

My Thoughts
In 1897, Boston built America’s first subway.

Historical romance with the added flare of a mysterious death. Who will be brought to justice for the wrongs committed?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. There were so many times that I sat with bated breath waiting to see what was going to happen. And when all the pieces started to come together I exclaimed out loud several times, "WHAT!?!?!?!" (Much to my husband's amusement.)

Without giving away any spoilers...I just need to say that I may have wanted to purse whomp SEVERAL of the characters along the way. But I love how Elizabeth Camden portrays the human nature. We are flawed creatures and we must constantly grow and learn and change. Large egos, pig-headedness, battles of wills, forgiveness, and passion can all be found in the relationships between our characters.

Plagued with the nightmares of the past, Stella is relentless to find the answers she needs. Stella's commitment to her family is admirable. However, the way she goes about getting stuff done....Is not wholly recommended.

Filled with danger and intrigue, mysterious men and imposters, From this Moment will take you back to one of the most memorable times in our country's history. Above all we are reminded that the Lord is always with us, protecting us and guiding us.

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

From the Back of the Book
Will the mistakes of their past cost them a chance at love?

Determined to find her lost younger sister, Marianne Neumann takes a job as a placing agent with the Children's Aid Society in 1858 New York. She not only hopes to offer children a better life, but prays she'll be able to discover whether Sophie ended up leaving the city on an orphan train so they can finally be reunited.

Andrew Brady, her fellow agent on her first placing-out trip, is a former schoolteacher who has an easy way with children, firm but tender and friendly. Underneath his charm and handsome looks, though, seems to linger a grief that won't go away--and a secret from his past that he keeps hidden.

As the two team up, placing orphans in the small railroad towns of Illinois, they find themselves growing ever closer . . . until a shocking tragedy threatens to upend all their work and change one of their lives forever.

My Thoughts

Any time I pick up a Jody Hedlund book, I wish I could just cancel the day and binge read. Alas, life happens and children must be fed...However, there is a point in each of her books that demands that you read past your bedtime in order to finish (and that happened to me last night).

Filled with rich detail and engaging history, Together Forever will whisk you away to another era. A heartbreaking time in our history, I have learned a lot about The Children's Aid Society and the orphan trains through this series.

Marianne Neumann is a young woman riddled with guilt from past decisions. She is in a place that I am sure many of us have been. Thinking that God no longer cares, or would even bother with the likes of her. Her journey of acceptance, truth, and love is one to cherish. I LOVE the tender, fun, and passionate Andrew Brady. He too battles with forgiving himself for past mistakes...but his faith and character make him stand out among heroes.

Jody Hedlund never ceases to capture my heart and soul with her stories and Together Forever, is no exception. Faith, family, and romance are at the heart of this story. Let it sweep you away and get lost in a good book today! Together Forever is Book TWO in the Orphan Train Series, make sure to check out the prequel (An Awakened Heart) and Book One (With You Always) first. Links below.

I received a complimentary copy of Together Forever from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Book One

About the Author

Winner of the 2016 Christian Book Award and Christy Award, best-selling author Jody Hedlund writes inspirational historical romances for both youth and adults.

Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she’s learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!).

When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.

A Refuge Assured - Jocelyn Green

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

About the Book
Fleeing One Revolution to the Aftermath of Another, She Seeks and Dreams of Peace
Lacemaker Vivienne Rivard never imagined her craft could threaten her life. Yet in revolutionary France, it is a death sentence when the nobility, and those associated with them, are forced to the guillotine. Vivienne flees to Philadelphia, but danger lurks in the French Quarter, as revolutionary sympathizers begin to suspect a young boy left in her care might be the Dauphin. Can the French settlement Asylum offer permanent refuge?
Militiaman Liam Delaney proudly served in the American Revolution, but now that the new government has imposed an oppressive tax that impacts his family, he barely recognizes the democracy he fought for. He wants only to cultivate his hard-won farm near Asylum, but he soon finds himself drawn into the escalating tension of the Whiskey Rebellion. When he meets a beautiful young Frenchwoman recently arrived from Paris, they are drawn together in surprising ways to fight for the peace and safety for which they long.

My Thoughts
First...WHY has it taken me so long to read one of Jocelyn's books? Incredible...Simply incredible.

The choice of setting for this story is one that I am not very familiar with at all. It was refreshing and captivating to learn about the time in America during the French Revolution. SO.MUCH.HISTORY. is packed into this book. It totally satisfied my nerd girl heart. But packed snugly in between all the history, you will find a story of identity, love, acceptance...

Vivienne has fled everything she had ever known for her safety. Her life is in shambles, but she is determined to move forward and succeed in life. Liam is torn in multiple directions. But his heart for truth, justice, and Vivienne and Henri will make your heart melt instantaneously.

I encourage everyone to get their hands on this book! You will be swept into the story and learn so much. You will also get to see a very practical application of our Father's love for us and finding our identity in Him.

I received a complimentary copy of A Refuge Assured from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

A Moonbow Night - Laura Frantz

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

 My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

About the Book

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It’s a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke–men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew looking for an experienced guide. When his guide appears, Sion balks. He certainly didn’t expect a woman. But it is not long before he must admit that Tempe’s skill in the wilderness rivals his own. Still, the tenuous tie they are forming is put to the test as they encounter danger after danger and must rely on each other.

With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.

My Thoughts

As A Moonbow Night came to a close, I had the horrible realization that I must now SWOOF(squeeze words out of feelings...aka review). I started freaking out to Beth form Faithfully Bookish because HOW am I EVER going to express my thoughts and emotions for this book? She sent me this graphic and I tell you what...I couldn't have said it better myself. Laura Frantz has not only written a remarkable book...She has created a time machine. Transported back in time, the beauty and the dangers of the tace kept me up late at night. I even had a dream or two about the Boone family and Tempe.

Tempe, Sion, Russell, Raven...Oh my goodness...I feel like I KNOW them...Ok, maybe not Raven as well. Which brings me to the point...Did anyone else find Raven ridiculously swoony? I NEED a book about Raven. I have SO many unanswered questions about him and I must have more of him on the page.

A Moonbow Night has love, danger, loss, heartache, healing, pain, peace, restoration, and faith woven into every paragraph. I am left so full of emotion, that I am very near to bursting. And I also want to hunt for a moonbow during the next full moon. The romance is sweet and not overt. However, Laura sure knows how to write a GOOD kissing scene! If you are ready for an adventure on the frontier of Kentucke deep in the heart of Indian lands...This is your book.

I received a complimentary copy of A Moonbow Night. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

A Note Yet Unsung - A Belmont Mansion Novel Book 3 - Tamera Alexander

Thursday, December 7, 2017

Winner of The Christy Award for Historical Romance 2017!!!

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

About the Book
Despite her training as a master violinist, Rebekah Carrington was denied entry into the Nashville Philharmonic by young conductor Nathaniel Whitcomb, who bowed to public opinion. Now, with a reluctant muse and a recurring pain in his head, he needs her help to finish his symphony. But how can he win back her trust when he's robbed her of her dream?

My Thoughts
How is this the FIRST book I have ever read by Tamera Alexander? Although, I am happy to report that I HAVE been to both Belle Meade and Belmont in Nashville (See pics below). The setting, the emotions, the music, the characters, the history...it all sweeps you away in a flurry of crescendos and allegros!

Rebekah and Tate are the PERFECT match and it is so much fun to watch their relationship go from mutual dislike, to swoon worthy, heart rending romantic story. Tate's family is the epitome of love and kindness. And that love is exactly what Rebekah needs.

The faith woven throughout the story line flows perfectly into the hearts of the characters and therefore into the heart of the reader as well.

I can not wait to catch up on the rest of the books in the Belmont Mansion series! I love being able to visualize the house from personal experience.

I received a complimentary copy of A Note Yet Unsung. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Miss Gertrude Cadwalader hoped her position as the paid companion to Mrs. Davenport would be easy. But as she becomes acquainted with her employer, she realizes the wealthy Mrs. Davenport has a strange tendency to be a bit light-fingered with other people’s trinkets. Gertrude is relieved when Mrs. Davenport decides to have a quiet summer away from the social scene–until the woman changes her mind in order to help a young socialite launch into society.
When Gertrude is caught in the act of trying to return one of the trinkets by Mrs. Sinclair, the mother of shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair, the woman jumps to an unfortunate conclusion. Harrison is determined to mend fences with Miss Cadwalader, but he’s unprepared for the escapades a friendship with her will entail.

So blessed by this amazing woman!
There is NO doubt that Jen Turano is one of my very favorite people...EVER. She keeps trying to convince me that she is just an ordinary person...But I beg to differ. Her books are full of humour, faith, suspense, and quirky characters (both human and animal). I fell in love with Jen's books as soon as I began reading After a Fashion. The story and the style was like nothing I had ever read before. And then, I read In Good Company when my son had to be unexpectedly hospitalized. And I could not have chosen a better book to have with me.

Rachael and I got the biggest surprise
having Jen show up at CFRR this yer!
Jen is caring, generous, funny (imagine that), and yes she is a person too...an extraordinary person. A person that you want to have in your corner. A person that I love to hang out with and chat with. A person who has gone above and beyond in her books, and in her relationship with her readers. She is fabulous and I hope you all get a chance to read her books someday. I am blessed to know Jen and to call her my friend. I am so thankful she followed the direction God gave her to write the way she writes. And for kicks and giggles...I do LOVE sharing this photo...this is what my bookish friends have lovingly titled, "Rachel's Jen Turano Face".  Because no matter how many times I talk to her, or see her face-to-face...My little nerd girl heart will be freaking out and flailing about....EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.

And now my friends, I am giving you a sneak peek into Jen's most recent book, Behind the Scenes.

March 1883 - New York City

"Pressing her nose against the glass of the carriage window, Miss Permilia Griswold felt her stomach begin to churn as she took note of the throngs of people lining Fifth Avenue. Even though darkness had descended over the city hours before, the lure of witnessing New York society trundling down the street in their fancy carriages, on their way to Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt’s costume ball, was apparently enough of a spectacle to keep people out and about on a chilly spring night. That her father’s carriage was still blocks away from their destination of 660 Fifth Avenue and yet crowds were pressed three deep in and around the sidewalk, gave clear testimony to the importance of this particular ball and to the interest New Yorkers had for its highest society members. Even though Permilia was included on the invitation list for the most important societal events in the city, she’d not grown up within the cosseted inner circles of society, which exactly explained why her stomach was churning. She was uncomfortable in social situations, had yet to master all the rules that went with being a member of New York society, and . . . “You’re fogging up the window, Permilia, which is obscuring my view and making all the people outside our carriage appear to be little more than ghosts wobbling about. It’s a most unnerving sight.”Tearing her attention away from a crowd she could see perfectly fine through the merest trace of fog on the window, Permilia settled it on her stepmother, Ida Griswold. “Forgive me, stepmother. That was most inconsiderate of me.”Turning back to the window, Permilia began swiping at the mist with a gloved hand, stopping midswipe when Ida suddenly took to tsking. “A

lady must never use her glove in such a common fashion,”Ida said, her words having Permilia’s hand dropping into her lap. “And”—Ida’s gaze swept over Permilia’s form—“you’ve taken to slouching again. On my word, if you’d simply remember to maintain a proper posture at all times, I’m quite certain you wouldn’t find yourself cast in the troubling role of wallflower season after season.”Swallowing the sigh she longed to emit, Permilia forced a smile instead. “Contrary to the prevalent thought of the day, I’m not a lady who feels as if my life has been ruined simply because I’ve obtained the somewhat undesirable label of wallflower.”“Of course your life has been ruined,”Ida countered. “You’re twenty-something years old, have never taken within society, nor have you ever attracted the devotion of a gentleman. Why, even your own stepsister doesn’t care to spend time in your company.”“I believe that has more to do with the fact that Lucy and I have nothing in common than my tendency to slouch upon occasion.”Permilia switched her gaze to her stepsister, Miss Lucy Webster, who was sitting ramrod straight on the seat opposite her, staunchly ignoring the conversation as she waved to the crowds gathered along the street."
