Midnight on the River Grey - Abigail Wilson

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

About the Book
Can one develop feelings for the man you swore to see hanged? That’s just what Rebecca fears she has done in this Gothic Regency romance.

After her brother’s mysterious death, Rebecca Hunter vows to expose the man she believes responsible: Mr. Lewis Browning—known by the locals as the Midnight Devil and by Rebecca as her new guardian.

Summoned to his reclusive country estate to await her London season, Rebecca plans her own secret investigation among the darkened corridors of the mysterious Greybourne Hall. Yet Lewis Browning is not as she once imagined, and his motivation is horribly unclear. Recurrent nightmares and Rebecca’s restless feelings are further complicated by the shadow of her mother’s prior descent into madness and wondering if she, too, will follow the same heartbreaking path.

Even as midnight rides, strange injuries, and further murders lead back to Mr. Browning, Rebecca can’t ignore the subtle turn of her heart. Has she fallen for the man she swore would pay for her brother’s death? And moreover, can she trust him with her uncertain future? (from Goodreads)

My Thoughts

My anticipation was high for this book. I love Wilson's style and twists and turns. She keeps the tensions high throughout the whole story and ties up the various pieces in a neat little bow by the end of the story.

Rebecca and Lewis are thrown together by desperate circumstances. When mysterious rumors concerning her brother's death begin to surface, Rebecca finds more questions around every corner.

I love the feel of Wilson's Gothic Regency stories. Dark, mysterious, and full of plot twists. Through it all, the hope and light shine through the cracks until everything crumbles and only the truth remains.

I received a complimentary copy of Midnight on the River Grey. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Catherynne M. Valente

Once upon a time, a girl named September grew very tired indeed of her parents' house, were she washed the same pink-and-yellow teacups and matching gravy boats every day, slept on the same embroidered pillow, and played with the same small and amiable dog.

Foremost - The Lost Princesses Book 2 - Jody Hedlund

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

About the Book

A second princess. Another key to the treasure. And a cruel king desperate to squelch the growing rebellion.

Raised in an isolated abbey, Lady Maribel desires nothing more than to become a nun and continue practicing her healing arts. She’s carefree and happy with her life…until a visitor comes to the abbey and reveals her true identity as one of the lost princesses.

When he was a young boy, Edmund Chambers helplessly watched King Ethelwulf murder his family. Edmund escaped and has lived in the abbey ever since, uniquely trained to work with wild animals. Secretly, he loves Maribel and desperately hopes she doesn’t complete her holy order vows.

When King Ethelwulf’s army arrives at the abbey to capture Maribel, she flees with Edmund across the desolate Highlands in an attempt to reach Adelaide’s rebel army. Edmund can no longer hide his love, but can Maribel give up her dreams of becoming a nun to love him in return? (from the author's website)

My Thoughts

This series just keeps getting better and better! I am thoroughly captivated and addicted to these characters and the story! The plot thickens in this book (the second full book in the series) and I am so anxious to see how the whole series wraps up!

Ms. Hedlund has woven a story of pure brilliance and creativity. New adventures around every corner. New dangers. New love. And such sweet reunions and romance. Maribel and Edmund lived such an isolated and quiet life...And in an instant, their lives are turned upsidedown. One thing that really struck me was how both Edmund and Maribel were trained from childhood to fulfill their callings. God places guardians and mentors in our lives strategically. To prepare us for our future. It's truly beautiful.

If you haven't read the first books, I recommend starting with Always, the novella. Thankfully these books are being released in quick order. There is still time to catch up before book 3 releases at the end of October.

I received a complimentary copy of Foremost from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

About the Book

A Cross-Country Trip through Regency England Brings Intrigue, Rogues, and High Adventure

The must-read conclusion to Michelle Griep’s Bow Street Runners TrilogyLife couldn’t be better for Abigail Gilbert—but it’s been a long time coming. Having lived with a family who hated her, love is finally within reach. Abby sets off on a journey across England to marry one of the most prestigious gentleman bachelors in the land—until highwaymen upset her plans and threaten her life.

Horse patrol captain Samuel Thatcher arrives just in time to save Abby. But to him she’s simply another victim in a job he’s come to despise. Tired of the dark side of humanity, he intends to buy land and retire.

Abby pleads with him to escort her on the rest of her journey. He refuses until she offers him the thing he desperately needs to achieve his goal: money. Delivering her safely will earn him more than enough to settle into a quiet life.
So begins an impossible trek for the cynical lawman and the proper lady. Each will be indelibly changed by the time they reach her betrothed, if they don’t kill one another first—or fall in love. (Goodreads)

My Thoughts

What a swoon-worthy hero! Samuel Thatcher is one for the books! Protective, handsome, brave, a fighter, and passionate! Full of adventure and dangers, Michelle Griep leaves you longing for the next page.

I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Samuel and Abby unfold. They begin as strangers thrust together by fate and forced to rely on each other throughout their journey. Witnessing the spark of attraction and the love that begins to unfold is so sweet...and frustrating...Because, let's not forget the plans that they have laid out for their own lives. But fate, and God, give them the push they need and the ending is more than I could have hoped for.

A beautiful story. A thrilling adventure. A captivating book. Get your hands on this Bow Street Runner book.
