About the Book
Though Magnus MacLeish and Lark MacDougall grew up on the same castle grounds, Magnus is now laird of the great house and the Isle of Kerrera. Lark is just the keeper of his bees--and the woman who could provide an elixir to help his ailing wife conceive and bear him an heir. But when his wife dies suddenly, Magnus and Lark find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of accusations, expelled from their beloved island, and sold as indentured servants across the Atlantic. Can they make a new beginning in this New World? Or will their hopes be dashed against the rocky coastline of the Virginia colony?

Laura Frantz's prose sparkles with authenticity as she digs into her own family history to share this breathless tale of love, exile, and courage in colonial America.

My Thoughts

Like a cup of steaming tea on a cold rainy day, this, my friends is a story to savor. What a book to kick off the new year with! I am satisfied to the fullest degree with A Bound Heart.

I wish I could spend days on end with Lark on the Scottish Isle of Kerrera. Her spirit, life, and love make her a person to love and admire. Magnus MacLeish, is a swoon-worthy hero like no other. And when he speaks Gaelic...SWOON!!! (Many thanks to Faithfully Bookish for letting me use the graphic she made).

The history draws you in and causes you to get lost in this story. You can smell the lavender, taste the snow in the air, and feel the damp soak into your bones. Laura Frantz brings history alive on the page. With a steady flow, you will find the cadence soothing and intoxicating, and beware the "just one more chapter" syndrome. 😉

Readers are sure to fall in love with this story of discovery, trials, and hope.

  3. Lovely review, Rachel! I just finished this book, and I'm having a hard time trying to write a review to do it justice. I might just have to say, "I loved it. You'll love it. Buy it, read it, and be happy. You won't regret it!" It's definitely going on my keeper shelf!
