Top Ten Tuesday - Characters That Remind Me of Myself

Monday, May 6, 2019

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesdays on Bookworm Mama! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, I am so excited to get back into the swing of things! This week I got to pick some characters that remind me of....Me. The more books I read, the more I realize that the mark of a great writer is to have a character that embodies a personality and lifestyle that is relatable. Not just to one person, but several people. I can find a little bit of myself in almost every book I read. Whether it be my taste in music or books. Things I like to do. The way I may react to a situation. It may not always be the main character, but somewhere in the story, Rachelisms definitely show up.

Nora Bradford in True to You by Becky Wade(Book one of Bradford Sisters Romance Series), has book nerd written all over her. And I ADORE her so much! I may have also flipped out more than a little when...a couple chapters in, Nora shows up in her Hogwarts Alumni t-shirt and leggings...And I was wearing MY Hogwarts Alumni shirt!!! I totally geeked out, took a picture, and Becky Wade even shared it! #freakingoutandflailingabout Nora is also incredibly competitive...which is not like me...AT ALL...*cough*cough*

Rosie...One of my favorite 'siblings' in Roseanna White's A Name Unknown. In this, the first book of the Shadows Over England Series, we meet Rosemary. An undercover, book-loving, organizing, caring, motherly, spy...There are many characteristics about her that I could relate to personally. And while I am pretty sure I would make a good spy, I have a feeling my assignment would end how Rosemary's did...No spoilers...You'll have to go read it yourself. Hehe!
I have always loved the theatre. Acting gives me such a thrill. I really wish I could pursue it as an adult easier. Lucetta in Jen Turano's Playing the Part is incredible. She is quirky and brilliant. And even when she finds herself in a sticky situation...She uses her brilliance to find a way out. Independent and strong-willed....um...ya...no...she isn't like me at.all...hehe! This is book 3 in A Class of Their Own Series.

One of the things that has always stuck with me about Miss Millie, is her love of learning. She intentionally improves her mind daily. And I like to think that I do as well. I LOVE learning new things, and I especially love using big random words in conversation. In Good Company is book 2 in Jen Turano's A Class of Their Own Series.

Who doesn't want to be like Hermoine? The Harry Potter books are some of my favorites and I adore Hermione. Sure she has her faults, don't we all? But I love her heart for learning and her desire to achieve excellence in everything she does. Perfectionism is a strong connection that we share.

While I really hope this is the sister I am most like from Pride & Prejudice, I have a weird feeling that I have quite a heavy dose of Mary mixed in there somewhere...Maybe not. But who's to say? I say I'm like Lizzie, so like Lizzie I shall be!

While there are many characteristics about Georgina that I HOPE I don't have, An Elegant Facade is the story in this series that has seemed to stick with me the longest. The message and heart behind Georgina's character moved me so deeply. To quote myself
Faith and self acceptance play a big role in this book. Not only being ok with who you are and how God created you, but thriving in that knowledge that God accepts us for who we are. It is truly important to realise how valued we are, not just by God, but our friends and family as well.

Loaylty, tenaciousness, bravery, and sleuthing. Those are the things that come to mind when I think about Mary from Through Waters Deep. It has been a couple years since I read this story, but I like to think that if I were in Mary's shoes, I would have done the same things. Bringing the truth to light and never backing down.

I grew up on a farm, I had a little sister (and little brother), we braided hair, got in fights, worked outside, cared for animals, and had a firm foundation in faith and family. These are the things that make me feel like I am a little like Laura Ingalls Wilder. But the reason these books remind me of myself is that these are the books that began my lifelong love of reading. Who knows, maybe someday I'll be an author too...

Ok, honestly, other than the fact that I played Peter Pan my senior year of high school. I don't really have that much in common with Peter, but he will ALWAYS remind me of myself because of the memories I made that year in drama. That last year of high school shaped my character A LOT. Helped me to discover who I am and what I want in life. And that is all credit to our director, Mrs. Steverding. Her words and encouragement and life lessons that she has poured into me throughout the years have helped me through some of the darkest moments of my life. "Can we be brave? Will we be brave? We must be brave, for life requires it." has been my life's motto. And I will forever cherish Peter Pan in my heart.

So who are some characters that remind you of...well...You?
