Northanger Abbey - The Jane Austen BBC Radio Drama Collection: Six BBC Radio Full-Cast Dramatisations

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Listening to this Radio Drama collection brings back loads of memories of sitting around the radio as kids listening to Adventures in Odyssey from Focus on the Family. So much fun and easy to follow the storyline.

Publisher's Summary
A collection of BBC radio full-cast dramatisations of Jane Austen's six major novels. Jane Austen is one of the finest writers in the English language, and this volume includes all six of her classic novels.
Mansfield Park: on a quest to find a position in society, Fanny Price goes to live with her rich aunt and uncle.
Northanger Abbey: young, naïve Catherine Morland receives an invitation to stay at the isolated Gothic mansion Northanger Abbey.

My Thoughts
Northanger Abbey is one of my favorite Jane Austen stories (as well as the only book I have listened to in this collection so far). I have been DROOLING over this collection since it was first announced, and it is FINALLY available in the USA. **Shout out to Audible** I had never tried Audible before so I signed up for the free 30-day trial and received 2 credits. I was able download this entire collection...for free! (The Count of Monte Cristo was my other choice...will post a review for that when I have finished it.)

The difference about this collection is that it has a FULL CAST. That's right, it is radio drama at it's finest. Narrated by Jane Austen it comes to life right before your...um...ears? Since I am familiar with this story it was easier for me to listen to. I was also able to listen while driving without zoning out! The sound effects and casting is superb. LOVE this collection and I have already started Mansfield Park which has David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch, be still my nerd girl heart. If you are a fan of Jane Austen and audiobooks, I encourage you to give this a try. Don't forget to check your local library if you don't have the ability to get the free credits from Audible.
