The Thorn Bearer - Penned in Time Book 1 - Pepper Basham

Filled with passion and Biblical truths. This book challenged me, brought me to tears, made me laugh...And caused me to crave yellow Lifesavers...

My Rating
★★★★★ - You have bewitched me, body and soul. (More Info)

"God help us, Sam, if His hope and grace stopped only with the perfect, good, and healthy. Who is in need of healing and grace more than the wounded, sick, and dying?"
Pepper Basham - The Thorn Bearer

About the Book
When Ashleigh Dougall’s fiancé leaves her eight months before their wedding, the unexpected blow ignites a battalion of insecurities stemming from her father’s intimate betrayal. In an attempt to escape her shame, Ashleigh boards the ill-fated Lusitania to cross the war-torn waters of Europe. Much to her dismay, she isn’t traveling alone.

Sam Miller is always making up for his best friend’s mistakes. Determined to help his childhood friend, Ashleigh, he offers his compassion and companionship as she ventures across a perilous sea. With the faint hope of renewing his lost love for Ashleigh’s sister, Sam never expects to find the woman of his dreams in the love of his childhood friend.

Neither are prepared for the life-altering and heart-breaking journey of their friendship.

My Thoughts
I am continuing reading a few books for my own personal enjoyment (instead of being part of an influencer or blog program), and I am LOVING it! The Thorn Bearer truly blew my expectations out of the water. Pepper shares deep and agonizing struggles with beautifully pure redemption. There were many points in which certain characters needed a good bashing over the head...But it was exciting to see God work in their lives and transform them into a new creation. Ashleigh's past follows her wherever she goes. Nothing she has tried, on her own, has worked to forget the nightmares haunting her. Be prepared for an emotional ride with some difficult subjects. But that is one thing that makes Pepper stand out...She doesn't sugar coat things, and she doesn't shortchange God's love and compassion. While specific trials of the characters are not ones I am familiar with, I do know how unforgiveness can drag your soul down. It is incredible to witness the freedom that forgiveness can offer. I am also familiar with the frustrations of God allowing certain things to happen in our lives. However, I do know in the depths of my heart, that God works all things together for good. As my daily life is witness to. I definitely recommend this book without reservations. I can't wait to start the next book!
I bought a digital copy of The Thorn Bearer on Amazon for my personal enjoyment. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
